Why electronics should not end up in ordinary waste.
E-waste is discarded electrical and electronic equipment: computers, phones, displays, cables and other devices that have reached the end of their useful life.
Much of it contains materials worth recovering. Some of it contains substances that need careful handling.

Electronics can contain substances such as lead, mercury or cadmium. Breaking devices apart without protection can harm people, and dumping them can pollute soil and water.
Handing equipment to a responsible collector keeps it out of ordinary waste and gives usable materials a chance to be recovered.

Buy only what you need and repair before replacing.
Working devices can often serve someone else.
Items that cannot be reused go to recovery or authorized recycling.
E-waste is regulated, and obligations differ by situation. This page is general information, not legal advice.
